What is One Big Thing?

It is a programme set up by ukactive, with British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) aimed at getting students more active.

What does registering for One Big Thing entail?

The theme for this year's One Big Thing is 5k anyway. We're encouraging universities up and down the country to get students to tackle a 5k course in whatever way they think most engaging.
All your university needs to do is register here and the most creative ideas will be recognised and awarded later in the year.

Why is it aimed at students in particular?

Because the statistics for inactivity among young people are alarming. In June 2013 it was revealed that only 54.7% of 16-24 year olds play sport once a week. More worryingly, this age group has not seen a significant growth in the last 7 years.

What is the goal of One Big Thing?
We want to engage students in individual and non-traditional activities to promote long term physical activity participation.
