The Inclusive Fitness Initiative
The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) is the national body responsible for developing sport for disabled people in England. They work closely with key partners to develop opportunities and build awareness for disabled people in sport. One of the programmes managed by the EFDS is the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI).
The IFI works with the fitness industry to provide disabled people with opportunities to work out in an inclusive environment. Their mission is to support operators and suppliers to be able to provide even more facilities for disabled people to get and stay active.
The IFI model addresses inclusion in the widest sense, making developments in the following areas:
- Creation of accessible facilities to meet current best practice and legislation
- Installation of inclusive fitness equipment, underpinned by a coordinated research and development programme
- Training staff throughout the facility, ensuring disabled people receive a safe, effective and valuable experience
- Implementation of inclusive marketing strategies, ensuring disabled people are aware of opportunities available
- Support to ensure the industry uses more inclusive and accessible marketing through their imagery and promotion
Matrix works in partnership with the IFI as a Research Associate to support the development of equipment, which overcomes the barriers to participation and enhances the workout experience and opportunity for all users.
We continue to adapt, design and develop a wide range of inclusive cardiovascular and resistance products to enable as many people as possible to benefit from regular exercise, training and conditioning to improve their health and fitness.
The Youth Sport Trust
The Youth Sport Trust (YST) in an independent charity with a mission to build a brighter future for young people through PE and sport.
The YST is focused on creating a world-leading PE and sport system that reaches, inspires and engages all young people - whatever their age or ability
They encourage children to do more PE and sport by developing different ways of getting them interested and involved. The YST supports all schools nationally. There is a growing belief that PE and school sport can make a major contribution to many agendas - educational achievement, public health, community cohesion, and, of course, sporting performance at the highest level. The YST uses sport as a catalyst to raise whole school achievement and looks to build a brighter future for all young people through PE and sport.
The YST wants to help young people to live healthy and active lives and to be the best they can be. Sport can be used as a great way to help them achieve this.
Matrix is a Business Honours Club member of the Youth Sport Trust. By working in collaboration with the Youth Sport Trust and schools through the provision of high quality equipment and solutions, we aim to help engage and inspire young people to lead active, healthy lives.
