The Inclusive Fitness Initiative

The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) is the national body responsible for developing sport for disabled people in England. They work closely with key Partners to develop opportunities and build awareness for disabled people in sport. One of the programmes managed by the EFDS is the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI).
The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) works with the fitness industry to provide disabled people with opportunities to work out in an inclusive environment. Their mission is to support operators and suppliers to be able to provide even more facilities for disabled people to get and stay active.
The IFI model addresses inclusion in the widest sense, making developments in the following areas:
- Creation of accessible facilities to meet current best practice and legislation
- Installation of inclusive fitness equipment, underpinned by a coordinated research and development programme
- Training staff throughout the facility, ensuring disabled people receive a safe, effective and valuable experience
- Implementation of inclusive marketing strategies, ensuring disabled people are aware of opportunities available
- Support to ensure the industry uses more inclusive and accessible marketing through their imagery and promotion
Matrix works in partnership with the IFI as a Research Associate to support the development of equipment, which overcomes barriers to participation and enhances the workout experience and opportunity for all users.
We continue to adapt, design and develop a wide range of inclusive cardiovascular and resistance products to enable as many people as possible to benefit from regular exercise, training and conditioning to improve their health and fitness.
